Broadband Hassles

I had this nifty site sent to me in an email today. My internet connection has been playing up for some time now, so I thought I would test it out! It is an up to 8MB package and my exchange can manage 4-5MB. So the result doesn't look so good does it?

A few months ago Pipex were taken over by Tiscali. The change in speed seems to co-inside with the changeover from the Pipex to the Tiscali server. It could just be a co-incidence and there is something wrong with the BT line, I guess I need to make a phone call to get the line tested by the Pipex/Tiscali...

Well, I did it but I don't have the slightest idea what the results mean!

We used to have Tiscali in work and I wasn't very impressed with them generally.

Liz, I shouldn't worry about it if everything is working smoothly for you :-) It might be time to change...

Nunyaa, That is a perfectly acceptable response to a computer ;-) :-)

I don't even know what broadband is supposed to be. I have a cable connection at 128 kps and will soon go to 512 kps. Is that broadband?

Semaj: Broadband is simply a term used to describe how much traffic can come and go through your internet connection. Old dial-up systems ran about 56kps, I would expect a 4-5MB connection to be running at an average of 4500kps.

I'm mean to be on the same package as Cherie... I had some teething difficulties after it was set up, but touch-wood it's been pretty stable, the only problem I have is that the router crashes every 36 hours guaranteed...

Of course, we could always just wait until CERN release their Grid project and get really fast internet...

Ahh! James I didn't get to reply in time and Andi is on the verge of a rant...

I am glad I don't have to put up with your internet speed!!!

Andi, Thanks as always for the techie stuff!
