No News is Good News

Last December I posted about the 'Good News' regarding the lengthy campaign to save jobs at Sapphire House. You can find more information about it here.

Following a process called 'Post Mapping' we today received our letters to tell us if we had a place in the new organisation. The process was complicated and fiddly as the new organisational structure is different and has higher grades than the existing organisation and also fewer staff. In addition to this process there are also two different voluntary early release schemes running! Some people quite understandably want to take the money and run.

All the people in my grade have been classed as Post Duplicate (PD), which means there are too many of us and and depending on how many people leave we might have to compete for our jobs... But on the plus side there will be vacancies higher up, which we should get the chance to apply for.

So now we have to wait...

Meanwhile the Cosford Campaign continues...

PS: The gas board were supposed to fit the new radiator today, there was a no show and I still have my leaky tap. Too many things to sort out...

And so it goes on .....

Waiting is such fun! And you have to wait for the gas man, too.

I can remember a company I worked for, beiong told one afternoon, that there going to be redundancies.

I can remember working out that one of the three of us in our role would go. And I remember the schadenfreude that it WASN'T my extension that rang.

I'm so sorry Cherry Pie, it must be so dispiriting for you. I do wish you well.

The last few years have been pretty ugly for the Civil Service. What the hell was Brown thinking when he got into a dick swinging contest with Letwin over who could cut the most posts. the 5% year on year admin costs reductions will mean that staff reductions will be going on for a while to come... idiots.

dragonstar - At least there is still hope ;-)

Crushed - I bet that was such a relief :-)

Ellee - Thanks! There are those up and down emotions, especially after campaigning so hard.

Jams - Yes the reductions will continue, but meanwhile the work has to be done somewhere else namely the private sector, is that cheaper for the tax payer? What really worries me though, is what happens to the people we are supposed to be providing services for?

Well, I hope you get a chance to apply for and get a promotion. I think I told you Husband worked at DVLC before the IT bit was privatised. I think it's the continual messing-around and uncertainty that is so wearing.

Yes and no. I'd only moved into the role, I was 22, lived with my girlfriend in her flat.

He had a wife and children, so I felt a bit bad.

It was my first proper job, really.

Liz - Yes you did tell me about your husband :-) The messing around wouldn't be half so bed if you knew the end result would be for the best!

Crushed - I can totally understand all of those thoughts xx

Oh my goodness - post mapping and post duplicate - the euphemisms for redundancies.

James - Yes, we knew they needed 100 people less in the new organisation, now we just have to wait as all the various processes get worked through!

D - Thanks. I have just spoken the the gas man and he is cross because his colleagues didn't phone him back. He is going to do the job himself now :-)

Nunyaa - That is so true :-)
