P is for Powis

I have previously posted about Powis Castle with a brief history, but today I am going to focus on the gardens of which I gave you a taster of a few days ago. It is one of my favourite places to visit.

Another fine house and gardens - you must have quite a collection. I used to go round castles likewise.
Lovely poppies.

I've been there!

Lovely garden.

Icidently, just to bore you if you wonder why it's called Powis castle, but is home (or was) to the Earls of Poole, the fact is that Welshpool is called Welshpool to distinguish it from Pole in Dorset, the orginial name being Poole, from which Powis or Powys got its name, the two names, Poole and Powis (Powys) orginally being interchangeable.

The gardens of these castles and great houses always amaze me. The mixed borders are always stupendous - it must take a lot of work!

Great photo!
