Richard Havers has just started a new blog promoting independent book shops, which are so much better than big chain stores. He is seeking out the best book shops and is asking for recommendations and reviews.
I rose to the challenge and recommended a bookstore, which turned out to be quite an amazing co-incidence! Richard was in the store (Barter Books) at the very same time I sent the email to him...
I do still have a couple of local recommended bookstores which I am going to check out and give a review on. I wonder if there will be any more strange co-incidences?
If you haven't checked out 'The Great Bookshops Blog' it is well worth a visit.

Oh! Oh! I must tell him abowt our good bookshop, the Red Bookshop in Colchester. It's grayte. They don't mind yu lookin at all the pikchers in the Bear books at all.
:@}
I could recommend a well assorted lovely tiny bookshop in the tiny town next to the most tiny village, which is the headquarter of Omnium, but it's probably not what you asked for, as they predominantly sell books printed in a language that sounds slightly strange to an English tongue.
Good idea though. Havers' and yours, of course, not mine. :)
I went to look at Richard's site when Ellee recommended it and I was tempted to send him one from here but thought it not much use. I see Sean was tempted to do the same thing.
The smell of book shops (especially old ones) is something I remember for my childhood. Unfortunately, modern bookstores are just like supermarkets with piles of books from the latest chef or footballer to have a book out.
I can still have a "fix" of the smell to some extent when we take out kids to the village library
It doesn't work that way here. I suppose there are small book shops in Dublin or Cork but if you want something particular it is Amazon or one of the their dealers.
Easons in Letterkenny has been a great disappontment - Books Direct is far more useful for mysteries or thrillers. Don't expect to see Reginald Hill though. Anthony Powell required Amazon and I will be replacing my Isherwoods the same way.
Bob - Oooh yes he will love that one :-)
Sean - I love bookshops even if I don't understand the language of the books sold ;-)
JMB - It is a wonderful idea isn't it?
Jonathan - I just love quaint bookshops. New or second hand it doesn't matter.
Aileni - I think I would miss being able to go in a bookstore and browse around and order things they didn't currently have available. But I love the internet for connecting me up to find anything I can't get locally ;-)
How on earth do you know what Richard Havers is doing? I don't...
Mutley - I didn't until he told me ;-)
Luvverly - will promote.
What a coincidence! I think that's a great idea of Richard's.
What a wonderful idea. THere is only one independent stor locally but one well worth prmoting
James - I am sure Richard will be pleased :-)
Welshcakes - It was a huge co-incidence wasn't it? I thought it was a wonderful idea too!
Jams - I am sure Richard would love to have a review from you :-)
I love old bookshops. The must, dust and smell of old books can't be duplicated.
Uber - I just love bookshops of any sort, I can spend hours in them :-)
