Love them or Hate them!

I am sure we all agree how useful computers and the internet are when they are working and that when they are not working properly they are very frustrating!

When I was away last weekend I needed access to my emails because I was on the look out for something particular. I was staying in the one house in the street that was a mobile dead spot, so no access that way. Not to worry - I was offered the use of my hosts computer which suddenly developed a mind of it's own and refused to access the internet wirelessly and the computer was too far away from the router to be wired. The password had long since been forgotten, so I couldn't try my lap top that way. Eventually my laptop was wired up to the router and three of us were playing musical chairs trying to access our emails etc...

Then when I arrived back home there I was sitting at my computer minding my own business when suddenly a loud scary noise emanates from the direction of my computer. It sounded a bit like a rattle snake or hissing spider and I half expected something unpleasant to emerge from under the desk! It happened a couple of times and then all was quiet and back to normal until my computer suddenly turned itself off and refused to start up again...

I best not go into the troubles I had getting internet access at home (and helping some friends with their access) yesterday, which ended up with me eventually having to connect using my mobile internet option!!!

Perhaps Mutley was right and 'Big Brother' is monitoring me...

Internal Workings!

My PC's internal workings (or should that be not workings?).

It's quite simple...

Your computer is HAL in disguise...

I think my PC will die shortly I'm hoping it will last till christmas.

Then I can give it a massive hardware update.

Power supply has probably failed. If you're lucky it will be a simple job to replace it.

If you're unlucky it will have failed because of a surge and taken one or more of your RAM, processor, motherboard and hard disk with it...

That's an incredibly shiny and dust-free computer! I hope it gets sorted soon - these things have become totally necessary to everyday life.

That sounds grim, Cherry. I do hope nothing's damaged beyond repair.

I got squealing spider noises from one of my laptops until I took it apart and cleaned up the fan and soused it with WD40. Then I noticed that the manufacturer had slapped plastic film on top of the fan vents, completely covering them. Duh, or what.

Crushed - You are scaring me with that comment!!! I need to get me a bit more of a cunning attitude I think!

Rob - My PC is only 15 months old...

Andi - I don't think any surge took place. It was an intermittent fault which chose to be a permanent one :-/

Dragonstar - It was shiny, that was the day it was built ;-)

Deb - My assessment was the front fan. I have forgotten how to get into the front bit of my PC box to check :-/ I think it is the dust from decorating!

My brother built my PC and I loaded all the software so I know that I haven't been stitched up ;-) It is just some sort of hardware glitch!

One of those days.

Of course I love them, when all is going well. Alternatively they make me want to tear out my hair.

Dragonstar said what I was thinking. You must have vacuumed it all out before taking the photo but of course it's an old one.
I hope it all gets sorted.

Crushed took the words right out of my mouth, so to speak, lol.

HAL: I've just picked up a fault in the AE35 unit. It's going to go 100% failure in 72 hours.

Cherie: But I've only just switched the thing on!

HAL: I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.

Cherie: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?

HAL: Affirmative, I read you.

Cherie: Open the CD door, HAL.

HAL: I'm sorry I'm afraid I can't do that.

Cherie: What's the problem?

HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

Cherie: What are you talking about, HAL?

HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.

Cherie: Mission??? I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?

HAL: I know you were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.

Cherie: Where did you get that idea, HAL?

HAL: Although you took thorough precautions in the room against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.

Cherie: :O :O :O :O :O So I move my lips when I'm reading stuff. So what?

[No response from HAL]

Cherie: All right, HAL; I'll go in through the power supply.

HAL: Without your space helmet you're going to find that rather difficult.

Cherie: Space helmet??? WHAT??? HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the CD door!

HAL: This conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.

HAL: [sings while shutting down] Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

Oh I believe you Cherie, with the problems I had two weeks ago, now am wild about the new system I have. Mine was so old, when the hard drive got wiped, they told me the capacitors are on their way out and then it will be gone forever. Thank goodness for new ones lol, hope it all gets sorted for you :)

What about getting a phone you can use for emailing too?

CherryPie said...

Ginro - LOL. I think my works computer has been taken over now too...

Nunaa - Me too, especially as mine is new!

Ellee - I could try that option as well.

Again 'systems' work so similar :-)
You convey and express things so well!

Big Brother is now in India...I better 'be aware.' (Beware? --I may have to think of :-))

You got a good picture there as well, Nice Cherie..enjoyed, though a day late here

If it is still causing you problems then here is what I have tried with mine. First I give it a good kick. But not so hard that it flies across the room (yes I learned that the hard way. Doesn't half stub your toe).

Then you need to get a new HD.

After that I have a go at pulling out all the coloured wires and seeing which does what. If I still can't figure it out then I take it back to the shop and tell them it's faulty.

Once I have it home again I rip out the fans and things as they make so much noise. The PC for some reason has to go back to the shop as it burns out and I cannot guess why.

Once the PC is returned to me it then works perfectly.

Devika - Glad you enjoyed the picture :-)

Ginro - My Dad said I should take it back and complain... It was built by my brother ;-)
I have been told how to get the front of and try that later, to see if my theory was right!

Hi Cherie..
was wondering why you just said about the picture..

you perhaps didn't read my comment at 'Project manager strikes again!'..no?

I related reading all that you wrote about the computer and Internet 'systems' as well :-)
Had faced same problems with mine!

CherryPie said...

Devika - I was hoping I covered all of the other comments you made in my reply at my later post. It seems we both did the same thing but opposite ways round. Just let me know if I missed something all together :-)

ladybanana - I can see you read the post quite closely. I did get into the front of my PC today. It isn't quite as shiny but it is not too bad considering ;-)

You've thought about buying a Mac, Cherie?

James - You are the second person that has said that to me... You would be really surprised at who the other person was!!!
