Vesting Day

I bet you are all wondering what I mean by vesting day? It means that our jobs have now officially changed over to a new organisation. To mark the occasion we had outgoing and incoming speeches followed by a barbecue plus a pig and turkey roast. Lunch was accompanied by a brass quintet from the Blues & Royals and I feel quite privileged to have enjoyed a private performance from them. It started off so lovely and sunny then the wind got up and yes you have guessed, it turned quite chilly and started to rain. Well it wouldn't be an English barbecue without rain would it?

The organisational structure is now sorted and people matched to posts. It just remains for the space planning to be done so that people can move to their teams! I am now part of 3 merged teams and will be doing the work of 3 people.

But for now until all this is sorted it is business as usual.

Meanwhile my friends at Cosford have just found out (amongst other things) that they now have to wait until next year to find out what is happening with their jobs...

Oh, well, as you say, there had to be rain! I hope your Cosford friends eventually receive goodnews. It's awful to feel insecure about yout job.

Rain? Oh yes...we had an unexpected shower late afternoon.
I had just hung out our bike gloves to dry out!

But they did not fire anybody so how does this work? Or make them redundant? I love that expression, so classy, not. Or did they?

Merged teams... Have you noitced how headcount and other staff reductions have meant staff in EO/AO/AA and support grades have gone in droves yet the senior grades seem to hold their positions....

Jams, as in most things in life eventually when there's no more indians to get rid of the chiefs start turning on each other. It's small consolation but by that time there's hopefully fewer jobs to go around and they end up suffering too.

3 times the work.... I bet your place of work has given it a fancy name like "pro-active multi-skilling/tasking".....

So you'll be doing less work!!

Oh, the oldies are the best.

You do a lot of this vesting then, Cherie?

So, apart from all the work everything's looking good then?!

That is serious vesting!

Welshcakes - I hope they do too, the not knowing gets very stressful after a while.

D - There is far too much rain at the moment. Usually just as I step outside!

Jmb - Nobody was sacked. The organisation started with over 500 people over 10 years ago. Government cuts had brought it down to just over 400 when we started our campaign. Due to the uncertainty a lot of people jumped ship and moved on. The rest have left via voluntary severance which I lot of people wanted to do. The workforce that is left now is 215.

Nunyaa - It has been far to rainy for us to have one at home this year and now it has turned to Autumn already.

Jams - Yes, funny that isn't it?

Richard - There are certainly quite a lot of higher grades. I am just wondering how the work of the lower grades will pan out. We will need to change our way of working to make it all possible I think.

Damon - That comes next ;-)

Calumn - Naughty!!

James - This sort of vesting once every two years or so!

Liz - Yes it is good news, everyone is happy apart from those people who always have to have something to moan about ;-)
