It seems that Damon and I are always swapping memes. I found this one (which I know my bookish friends will enjoy) on his new Writing Blog, if you haven't found it already it is well worth a look.
What was the last book you bought?
Advanced Banter - The QI Book of Quotations by John Lloyd & John Mitchinson.
Don't worry I won't be adding any to my list of quotations and spoiling my Cherie's Place quotes series.
Name a book you have read MORE than once.
Lord of the Rings (I usually listen to it as an audio book). I like the way it parallels with real life, there are lots of lessons in there.
Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?
I have thought quite hard about this and can't think of a single book that has had this effect!
How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews.
The cover design and the plot summary attract my attention then I usually go and check out a few reviews.
Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
Over the years I have mostly read fiction. But lately I have been reading more history and politics. I put this down to my involvement in the Trade Union and reading too many blogs!!!
What's more important in a novel - beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
A gripping plot, but the writing must be at an acceptable level too.
Most loved/memorable character (character/book).
My most loved character has to be Gandalf.
One of my most memorable books is The Christmas Mystery by Jostein Gaarder (I have read this one as many times as I have read Lord of the Rings).
Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
Advanced Banter - The QI Book of Quotations by John Lloyd & John Mitchinson.
Sepulchre - Kate Mosse
The Dance of 17 Lives - Mick Brown
Squandered - David Craig
My Life - Fidel Castro
Staying Alive - Real Poems for Unreal Times.
The Handbook for my Pure dab digital radio (Oops! that is sad isn't it ;-) )
I am just going to add The Christmas Mystery to the pile (see above) it is a great read for Christmas.
What was the last book you've read, and when was it?
The Road Home - Rose Tremain
I read it about 6 weeks ago for my book group, but was unable to attend the meeting to get the thoughts from the group. I intended to do a blog post/review but life has been so hectic (also the reason for not completing a book since then)...
Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
On more than one occasion, but I usually feel guilty if I have to give in!

Advanced banter sounds interesting.
Crikey James that was quick!!! I couldn't resist the book when I saw it, even though it distracted me from what I was really supposed to be doing!
I think I will do this one! Interesting answers, cherrypie.
With you there on Lord of the Rings. Love it. It was a real genre-creator, created the entire Fantasy genre and practically laid down the rules for fantasy for the next 60 years....
really interesting, Fairy !!!

Welshcakes - I look forward to seeing your answers.
Damon - It certainly did didn't it?
Luisa - That sounds a lot more relaxing than my book pile ;-) :-) xoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Oh I have to pinch this meme too.
I forgot to say the other day how much I love your seasonal header Cherie. I dare not change mine since it took me forever to get it to fit.
I don't much like anything other than photo themes but books are another matter. Might do this.
JMB - Looking forward to your answers :-) & Thank you. It took me an age to find, the getting it to fit was easy but remembering where I saved my normal image....
Aileni - I am looking forward to your answers, I know you love books as much as I do :-)
Ok - I have done mine though I fear the style of the post is a bit difficult.
Aileni - I will be right over to check it out :-)
