L is for Lacock

In the grounds of Lacock Abbey there are some restored botanic gardens. The Abbey is medieval and has been converted into a country house. It is the former home of William Henry Fox Talbot a pioneer of photography and there is an interesting museum here that is dedicated to him.

I have visited twice and both times are memorable. The first time there was a torrential downpour and thunderstorm. It gave the Abbey a spooky atmosphere especially when the lights kept flickering. The second time I managed to fall down a hole in the side of the road just outside the Abbey.

I often wonder whether you could fel comfortable living there though. It's a bit like when they convert old churches into pubs. Somehow it just feels WRONG. It's consecrated ground.

Aileni - I hadn't noticed it was Lavender until you mentioned it.

Earthlinggorgeous, bear naked, Rebeckah, Ackworth Born and Neva - Thank You :-)

Leslie - You are going to have a fun packed time :-)

JMB - I just wish the weather had been better for more visits this year :-)

Dragonstar - I was just a bit shell shocked for a few minutes and some minor grazes.

Devika - Thank You :-)

Sally and Crashie - I am glad you enjoyed it :-)

Crushed - A friend of mine used to live in a church that had been converted into flats. The shell of the church remained as did the stained glass windows. There was a balcony on the second floor that looked down on the central part of the church where the residents held communal gatherings and parties.

Luiz - Thank you :-)
